CMO trounces RMG, captures cage title

KRISTIAN Coquilla, Dindo Pastor and Cadel Mosqueda went hot in the last 47 seconds to bail out the CMO five out of trouble in Game 2 over the Regional Mobile Group, 121-112, and win the 4th Mayor Rodrigo Duterte-AFP/PNP basketball tournament at the Davao City Recreation Center.

Archie Zozobrado and Anthony Placido led the scoring charge in the final quarter for RMG to cut the lead to just six points, 109-115, but Coquilla and Company delivered the goods just in time.

The RMG cagers were forced to foul the attacking CMO in the dying seconds to keep themselves in a fighting position but their rivals converted the gift shots.

The Police Regional Office XI salvaged third place after thrashing the PNP National Support Unit, 82-79 in overtime, in the other game.

Dong Uganap topscored for PRO XI with 16 points who canned in the crucial points in the extra period while teammate added by Alexes Alcano's 15.

Resty Go, a fellow Holy Cross Crusader of Uganap and active in the collegiate basketball wars while a student, pumped in 20 baskets for NSU.

NSU's Marvin Asoy sank a three-pointer, eight seconds remaining to cut the lead to just one point, 79-80 but Uganap's free throws saved the night for PRO-XI.

Davao City Councilor Conrado Baluran awarded the prizes to the winners of the tournament presented by Mayor Duterte, supported by the Sports Development Division and sanctioned by BAP-XI Director Regino "Boy" Cua.
