Tuesday, January 09, 2007 Route 2 jeeps soon to serve up to SM
THE snags on the request of the Route-2 Drivers and Operators Association (R-2DOA) for their route to be extended to SM City Davao have finally been cleared and the approval is set for this week.
Traffic and Management Control Board Secretary Alfredo Pontillo said R-2DOA met with the Ecoland Subdivision Route Operators and Drivers Association (Estroda) and that the two parties have come up with a resolution.
Estroda will allow R-2DOA to use the path leading to the Estroda Terminal providing that Route 2 drivers will not pick-up or load passengers within the premises of Estroda, which includes Tulip Drive, Ecoland Drove and Ecowest.
Unloading is allowed but Estroda says they are not liable for any problems concerning traffic rules and regulations that may arise.
However, Pontillo said this is just a temporary arrangement up until SM can plan another route that will facilitate Route-2 drivers' entry into the SM area.
Pontillo added that implementation would follow immediately upon approval of the City Government.
Evaluation of the said extension of route, which is under the city's developmental route project, is due in two months after implementation.
The extension of Route-2 will be the seventh developmental route approved since October 2006.
Developmental routes are routes outside existing commuter service that now require such because of a growing commuter population.
Four routes approved last December 5 last year is set for evaluation on February 15, 2007. (GLP)
