Trade dep't exceeds target on processed BNRs

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Region has revealed that the number of business names it has registered for 2006 already reached more than 100 percent of its annual target.

As of November this year, the agency has already approved a total of 10,228 business name registrations (BNRs). This is 105 percent higher than the 9,761 annual target.

Of the 10,228 approved BNRs, 8,478 were original applications while the remaining 1,283 were for renewal.

Trade Assistant Secretary Merly M. Cruz said such leap in the actual number of registered business names only shows that business still strives well in the region.

Cruz added that the increase in BNRs can be attributed to the intensified campaign among traders to have their businesses registered with the agency.

"This is also an indication that a lot of people in the region still keen on engaging into business. With this scenario, we remain confident that Davao Region has a good environment conducive for doing business," she said.

Once the data coming from the five provinces of Davao Region (Davao City, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Compostella Valley) will be consolidated, Cruz said the agency will immediately release the annual report.

"This will give everyone a glimpse of the real business situation in the region," she said.

Cruz is optimistic that by next year, the region will continue to achieve 100 percent (if not more than 100 percent) of its set annual target.
