Caldoza, Wong win debut matches

RIVERSIDE Elementary School teacher Rowel Caldoza and F. Bangoy National High School principal George Wong won their opening matches at the start of the Department of Education (DepEd)-Councilor Peter Laviña Table Tennis Tournament at the S.I.R. Elementary School Saturday.

Caldoza beat Raul Mahinay of Matina Elementary School, 3-0, while Wong also won on the same note against Joey Canoy of Don Julian Rodriguez Elementary School.

Matches were still ongoing in both men's and women's divisions of the tournament managed by the Metro Davao Table Tennis Association (Medatta) and sanctioned by the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (Tatap) Region 11 headed by Councilor Laviña.

The champions will receive P1,000 cash each while the runners-up will settle for P600.

Close to 50 participants are vying for honors in the two-day event that culminates Sunday. (MLSA)
