Friday, January 19, 2007 Sarabia assures adequate funding for Prisaa bets By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan
QUALIFIED Davao City athletes will get sufficient funding support for their training when they see action in the National Prisaa Finals set April 15 to 21 in Iloilo City.
But they will have to enter through the eye of the needle first in the Davao City Private Schools Athletic Association (DC-Prisaa) Meet 2007, which will kick off with its pre-opening basketball and volleyball games on Saturday at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina Gym.
DC-Prisaa athletic manager Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia, who guested during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn yesterday, said: "We assure national finals-bound Davao City athletes they will receive training support like snacks after practices and vitamins during the training period."
"We have the luxury of funds this year since the venue for the national meet would require limited budget compared when we participated in Pangasinan last year. We were really cash-strapped with the traveling expenses," he added.
Winners in the citywide meet on February 15 and 16 and regional meet on March 8 to 10 will earn slots to the nationals.
Sarabia, however, said winning coaches of team events will have the privilege to choose his selection team for the Iloilo games.
He said a total of 48 games in men's and 18 games in women's basketball while 38 games in men's and 28 games in women's volleyball will be played every Saturday and Sunday starting this weekend.
Fourteen events will be contested in the DC-Prisaa Meet with competing schools Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC), UM, Ateneo de Davao University, Brokenshire College, Rizal Memorial Colleges, San Pedro College, DMMA College of Southern Philippines, Agro-Industrial Foundation College, Mats College of Technology, University of the Immaculate Conception, Davao Doctors College and MMFC.
