Tuesday, January 23, 2007 Senior citizens back Sara, Leo as mayor's running mate
THE citywide Federation of Senior Citizens Association expressed support for lawyer Sara Duterte as Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's choice for vice-mayoral running mate in the coming elections.
In a manifesto, the group with an estimated membership of 60,000 out of Davao City's more than 700,000 voting population, said they also "strongly recommend and endorse" Councilor Leonardo Avila III as the alternative running mate of the mayor should Sara decline the nomination.
Over 14 district presidents signed the manifesto including Dolores Hipolito of Talomo B, Valentino Batilong of Buhangin B, Alfonso Biñan Sr. of Talomo A, Bienvenido Arcayan of Buhangin A, Benito Losioned of Calinan, Felimom Podunas of Paquibato, Francisco Rivera of Poblacion A, Menilio Narciso of Tugbok, Leonor Cedeño of Agdao, Mauricio Adlaon of Bunawan, Florencio Salon of Toril, and Hospicio Diamos of Baguio District.
Santos Calida, the district head of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines, was also a signatory to the manifesto.
Avila in a phone interview said he was honored and humbled by the show of support. (GLP)
