TWO to four football players from Mindanao impressed national coach Salvador "Bob" Salvacion after he conducted try-outs for the Philippine men's U-21 national team at the Tionko field Friday and Saturday.
"But the PFF (Philippine Football Federation) will still have to announce the names of successful applicants next week," said Davao Football Association (DFA) secretary Erwin Protacio.
A total of 24 participants from as far as Cotabato City, Ozamis, North Cotabato, South Cotabato and Compostela Valley joined the try-outs along with a handful of players from Davao del Norte and Davao City.
The try-outs included assessment of individual skills, game behavior, fitness and behavior in front of the goal.
"There are lots of potentials but they still lack a number of competitive games," Protacio quoted Salvacion as saying.
Successful applicants will join the RP under-21 team set to compete in the U21 Southeast Asian Youth Football Championships in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam on March 3 to 17.
