Saturday, February 03, 2007 Abap recognizes Davao group as new member
THE Davao City Liga ng mga Barangay Amateur Boxing Association (DCLB-ABA) was recently recognized as an affiliate member of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP).
The recognition was made by ABAP president Manuel T. Lopez through a letter addressed to DCLB-ABA president City Councilor Amilbangsa Manding on November 15, 2006.
DCLB-ABA headcoach Roger Sumampong confirmed this Thursday during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.
"We received the letter just recently and we are happy to announce this development," Sumampong said.
He said DCLB-ABA, by the virtue of Lopez' recognition, may now conduct amateur boxing tournaments in the city.
"Our goal is to bring the sport of boxing into the grassroots. That's why we are going to the city's barangays to scout for promising boxers and develop their skills," he added.
In a furnished copy of Lopez' letter, he said Mandings' group is authorized to hold boxing tournaments according to ABAP's set of guidelines.
The DCLB-ABA has set a series of boxing tournaments and clinics in the barangays this year. (MLSA)
