Palos ready to defend crown in 60th PAL Interclub By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
A BLAZING final round performance carried Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club to victory in the Sportswriters Division of the Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub men's play last year in Davao City.
With the venue now shifting to Cagayan de Oro, the Palos shotmakers hope to keep that fiery form when they try to defend their crown in the 60th edition of the PAL Interclub in the City of Golden Friendship from February 21 to 24.
Save for one new player, the nucleus of that championship winning team is back for the Cagayan campaign.
Team captain Anthony Sasin, Alfonso Marcelino, Paul Larrabaster, Ramon Mackay, Jaime Tan Sr., Jaime Tan Jr., Eduardo Wee, North Cotabato Gov. Manny Piñol and Jessie Tan will be back swinging for Palos.
Jose Marfori, who was with the team last year, is not playing this time. Seeing action in his place is Ronald Galicia.
Last year, Palos fired 112 points in the PAL modified Stableford system of scoring on the fourth and final round at its home course to turn a close contest into a lopsided triumph.
Counting its earlier rounds of 102-108-97, Palos totaled 419 for nine-point victory over Orchard, which could only score 410.
Palos made it a twin kill of sorts when Boyet Gilles took the Flight C individual title in the Senior's event held a week earlier.
The Senior's event for this year's Interclub is scheduled February 16 to 18.
Playing for Palos in the Senior's are Milton Liu, Boyet Gilles, Roberto Galicia, Emmanuel Laurel, Elindo Lo, Necito Gumapac, and Wilfredo Maldia.
