Soldiers, informants to get reward for escapees' arrest
By Ben O. Tesiorna

SOLDIERS who killed one and captured two of the escapees from the North Cotabato jail last Saturday afternoon will have their share of the reward money to be given by Gov. Emmanuel Piñol.

The governor said the informants who tipped the soldiers about the escapees' whereabouts will also be given their share of the bounty.

A P20,000 reward for each recaptured escapee, dead or alive, was earlier offered by Piñol to the public. But it was learned that the reward for the dead inmate will now be P50,000 while for those captured alive will only be P20,000.

The killed escapee was identified as Indong Taligapen while those captured were Lando Serrano and Johnny Maanib.

The three, along with another unidentified escapee, crossed ways with the pursuing soldiers from the Army's 602nd Brigade in Sitio Siento Trenta, Barangay Pedtad around 3:15 Saturday afternoon.

Taligapen reportedly opened fire at the soldiers, resulting in a brief firefight. Recovered from the dead inmate was an M16 rifle with a bandolier of ammunition.

The three are said to be facing murder and multiple murder charges prior to their escape.

A total of 49 inmates from the provincial jail in Kidapawan City escaped during the early morning raid by Pentagon kidnap-for-ransom group last February 2.
