Wednesday, February 14, 2007 Environment alliance endorses bio-fuels, but not politicians By Ben O. Tesiorna
THE nationwide alliance of environmentalist groups dubbed as the Fuel4Life Movement is endorsing the use of bio-fuels this coming May elections, but not the politicians who are claiming authorship of the Bio-fuels Law.
In a press conference Tuesday, Sustainable Energy Development Program (SEDP) IEC Specialist Diwata Paredes said they have been endorsing the use of bio-fuels for years now, way before the passing of the Bio-fuels Law and way before the start of the campaign period for the May election.
"We are not endorsing any political candidates in line with the Bio-fuels Law. We are endorsing the use of bio-fuels to promote clean and healthy air," Paredes said.
Fuels4Life Movement is a flagship project of the SEDP in support of the Clean Cities Program. Initially designed to gather private sector sponsors for specific activities, Fuels4Life has evolved into a dynamic partnership among institutions and individuals keen on promoting use of cleaner fuels for a better environment.
The group was on their 11-day and last leg of their nationwide caravan that started from Luzon down to Mindanao.
