THE City Government and the business sector of Davao City are taking on a major awareness program to promote Davao as the Information and communication technology (ICT) hub of Mindanao.
Andre Fournier, chair of the ICT commerce committee of Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII), said they are eyeing an e-services (electronic services) forum to promote the city to the ICT industry.
Speaking during Friday's I-Speak forum at the regency Inn, Fournier said initial efforts have been made for the staging of the first Mindanao ICT Congress in September.
"We have to give the event an international flavor, so that our partners in the Bimp-Eaga will be encouraged to join," Fournier said.
He added that Bobby Teo of the Davao City Investment Board will be in Manila this month to promote the city's ICT potential and capability.
"Davao's good weather, its stable peace and order situation and competent workforce are the best come-on for the ICT investors," Fournier said.
He added that a Techno Kapehan will be held at the Department of Trade and Industry next week to create an investor's and entrepreneur's group which will concentrate on IT-based businesses.
Arrangements with universities and schools have also been made in order to facilitate the offering of a three unit elective on technopreneurship this coming June to provide a venue for budding technopreneurs to develop their ideas. (GLP)
