Maybank extends assistance to Typhoon Reming victims

MAYBANK Philippines recently made a donation to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) to help in ongoing rehabilitation efforts for the displaced victims of Typhoon Reming in Bicol.

The donation represents a portion of Maybank employees' unused sick leave credits pledged to the bank's MaybanKalinga program, Maybank's way of continuing the tradition of the group's involvement in bringing cheer to the less fortunate and participating in social welfare and community outreach projects, along its parent bank's activities in Malaysia.

Post your Valentine's Day greetings

Handing over the donation in behalf of Maybank is Noli Ortiz, Maybank head of corporate affairs and Deng Castro, Maybank PR and branding officer. Accepting for Red Cross is Gwendolyn Pang, PNRC director of Fund Generation Department.

This is the first time Maybank has tapped the Red Cross as a conduit of their donations, although in the past it has also extended aid to victims of calamities, specifically the Quezon and Aurora typhoon victims through ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya and the landslide victims in Guinsaugon, Southern Leyte.

Maybank is the biggest bank in Malaysia in terms of assets (over US$50B). It is present in key financial centers worldwide, including Shanghai, London, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta and Bahrain.

Maybank's operations in the Philippines began in 1997 and now consist of 45 branches in Metro Manila and key provincial cities, the second largest overseas operations next to Singapore.

Maybank was recently ranked among the top performing banks in the Asia Pacific. In the 2006 edition of the "Asian Banker 300", an annual ranking and survey of the largest and strongest banks in the region, Maybank was ranked 4th largest in Southeast Asia.
