Lopez quashes rumors of team-up with de Guzman

THIRD District Representative Ruy Elias Lopez is rumored to be planning to run for city mayor with the former mayor Benjamin C. de Guzman as his running-mate.

Lopez, however, was quick to quash the rumor.

In a text message, Lopez denied plans to run as mayor, adding that he will just serve as campaign manager for his brother who is running for the third district.

"No, I am not running for any position. I am campaigning for my brother Rene Elias Lopez. The rumor is not true. This is official," Lopez said.

Talks are going around that Lopez decided to run against the formidable Mayor Rodrigo Duterte after the mayor decided to have his own daughter, Sara, run for vice mayor.

Duterte, meanwhile, refused to give any comment on the issue during his television program "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" Sunday. (BOT)
