Dad pushes anew for building of Malabog, Tibungco hospitals
By Grace L. Plata

DAVAO City Councilor Diosdado Angelo Mahipus has asked his colleagues in the City Council to help him push for the establishment of city hospitals in Malabog and Tibungco.

This is the second time Mahipus has pushed for the hospitals in recent sessions. Mahipus said he is concerned over reports reaching his office that the government hospital in Davao City does not prioritize local residents.

"Ingnun lang ang pasyente na kung walay madunggaban, madayun imong operasyon (A patient will be told for as long as no one comes in with a stab wound, then he will be up for operation)," Mahipus said.

Since there are local government buildings left unused in the areas, Mahipus proposed that these be converted to the much-needed hospitals to provide basic health services to nearby residents.

He said Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has already given his nod on the project in one of their informal meetings.

Mahipus asked the City Council secretariat to transmit his proposal to the Office of the City Mayor for the recommendation of budget allocation was included in the 2007 budget.

For initial operation, Mahipus said, a "skeletal" force composed of a doctor, nurses, and medical assistants will be deployed to each of the hospitals.

Mahipus said this might just be a small start but it would prove useful to the residents of Tibuncgo and Malabog.
