Lesaca bags chess title

DAVAO City National High School (DCNHS) bet Jon Christian Lesaca bagged the 17th Edition BKCC-DCSC U-14 Active Club Rating Chess Tournament title at the Blue Knight Chess Club along Bonifacio St. over the weekend.

Lesaca tallied 4.5 points while Patrick Miguel Aquino bested fellow Stella Maris Academy of Davao (Smad) 4.0 scorers Recto Sanchez and Josev Omar Aquino via tiebreaks for the runner-up honors.

Sanchez placed third while Josev Omar was fourth in the five-round Swiss System format tournament co-organized by BKCC and Davao City Sports Council, Inc.

The top three placers received chess magazines and other items.

Ademar Toleran came fifth while Rowelyn Acedo of Jose Maria College (JMC) placed sixth followed by Alfred Zamora of San Isidro Elementary School (SIES), Smad's Eric Jan Ruelo, JMC's John Gerard Acedo and Sheldon King Wasawas in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.

Trailing behind were Lorenz Daniel Lumen of Sped-Bangkal, Hanzel Palado of Quezon Elementary School, Reynald Villejo (SIES), Kenneth Dilegencia (JMC), Joshua Tarroza of Magallanes Elementary School (MES), Francine Babista of Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU), Faustine John Palado (QES), Dante Ysulat Jr. of Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Elementary School (KTMES), Felipe Molijon (SIES), Denzyl John Amar (MES), Beyn Adriel Bilasa (SIES) and Bryan Jay Cahilog (SIES).

The 18th edition is set next month. (MLSA)
