Agilas fly high anew, bag basketball crown

THE Duterte Agilas clawed Montaña Pawnshop Jewellers, 87-75, to capture the Open crown of the PSC Edsa Unity Sports Festival basketball tournament at the Almendras Gym Sunday night.

In an earlier game, Agro-Industrial Foundation College (AIFC) Sailors sank the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Blue Knights, 87-83, for the collegiate title.

The Agilas were ahead as much as 10 points in the first quarter and never looked back on the way to bagging the title and the P4,000 cash prize.

Randy Panerio sizzled with 21 points to lead scoring for the Agilas while former PBA Purefoods cager Henry Fernandez topped Montaña with 19.

The losers also received cash prizes in the cagefest sanctioned by Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) regional director Regino "Boy" Cua.

The cagefest was part of the four-event sportsfest organized by the Philippine Sports Commission in celebration of the Edsa Revolution anniversary.

The sportsfest also included a fun run, amateur boxing and dancesport exhibition at the Rizal Park over the weekend.
