POWERHOUSE University of Mindanao (UM) captured 14 titles while Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) topped two events in the 2007 Davao City Private Schools Athletic Association (DC-Prisaa) Meet over the weekend.
The UM Wildcats humbled Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Crusaders, 70-66, while the UM Cardinals dethroned defending champion Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC), 74-66, for the men's and women's basketball titles at the UM Matina Gym Sunday.
The UM men's volleyball team overwhelmed HCDC, 3-1, in the finals Sunday night but the UM lady spikers bowed to Iking Tomines-coached HCDC, 17-25, 25-22, 24-26, 17-25, in the afternoon.
"We hope to make it to Iloilo. We want to win a gold medal after settling for the silvers in the past two National Prisaa finals," Tomines said.
Reigning national champion UM nipped RMC, 6-5, in men's baseball as the UM softball team breezed through an easy championship title via default over RMC.
UM edged DMMA College of Southern Philippines (DCSP), 2-1, for the sepak takraw crown.
UM also clinched the men's and women's badminton titles and men's lawn tennis title over Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) bets.
The UM jins pocketed five golds in men's taekwondo while DCSP got two golds and Mindanao Medical Foundation (MMFC) took one gold.
In women's taekwondo, UM copped three golds while the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), San Pedro College and Brokenshire College settled for one gold each.
UM ruled the men's and women's swimming against HCDC. DC Prisaa athletic manager Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia Monday said the chess event will continue this weekend.
"Track and field will yet start on Saturday since the oval was flooded due to rain over the weekend," he said.
He assured that DC Prisaa will have a selection team for the Regional Prisaa Meet on March 8 to 11.
"We will have the best players from all teams to compose the city team," Sarabia said.
