Wednesday, March 07, 2007 Maganda, Penero bag Igacos volley crown
THE Bolibolista de DAvao (BDD) Team A pair of Sherwin Maganda and JR Penero walloped Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC)-B bets Allan Jay Sales and Celboy Atendido, 21-13, to clinch the 6th IGACOS Open Beach Volleyball Tournament men's title at the Pe¤aplata volleyball court Sunday.
Maganda and Penero pocketed the P5,000 cash prize while Sales-Atendido settled for the P3,000 runner-up purse in the Davao Amateur Volleyball Association (Dava)-sanctioned two-day meet.
Maganda also took the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. He received a trophy for his feat.
Tagum City's Lowell Fabian and Roquelito Tayabas placed third to receive P2,000 while BDD-B's tandem of Jason Juan and Alfonso Calubag was fourth to get P1,000. They also received medals and trophies.
In the distaff side, Tagum downed University of Mindanao (UM)-A, 21-16, in their titular clash.
Tagum was bannered by MVP awardee Liezl Manatad and Maylene Que while UM-A was composed of Maricel Cabus and Janice Arnaiz.
HCDC-A's Carren Desierto and Dolly Pe¤aflorida grabbed the third spot as sister team HCDC-B's Annalyn Diaz and Shiela Traiga came in fourth.
The women's top four teams also received the same cash prizes, as their male counterparts, from IGACOS city administrator Cleto "Jun" Gales, event in-charge Jemi Camaso and Dava president and tournament director Daks Yambao during the awarding rites.
