Saturday, March 10, 2007 Economy's trickle-effect not felt coz it's not there: Koko By Grace L. Plata Cub Reporter
FOR opposition senatorial candidate Aquilio "Koko" Pimentel IV, the economic strides the national government has been bragging about will not trickle down to the masses simply because "the faucet is closed" or that economic stability is not really there.
"The government might have just been lucky that a large amount of money was parked in the country, giving it a sense of stability," Pimentel said in an interview Thursday evening.
Aside from the economic issue, the government has yet to answer the issues on electoral fraud and extrajudicial killings, said Pimentel.
Pimentel said he will stand by issues that his father, Senator Aquilino Pimentel Sr., have stood for but clarified that he will do it in a manner that is different from that of his father.
As a product of the new generation, Pimentel said technology and present trends have affected his way of thinking, helping him to explore innovative avenues to further his causes.
Pimentel used the cellphone as analogy, saying he is "Pimentel 2.0i" while his father is "Pimentel 2.0" adding that the "i" represents his time to show the stuff he is made of.
On one of the issues his father feels strongly about, the young Pimentel said he is also for federalism and treats it as a long-term agenda.
Pimentel, meanwhile, said that he is satisfied with the way the Genuine Opposition campaign is being run even with the financial constraints it is facing.
He added that the widening Lakas-Kampi rift serves as advantage to the opposition.
