Alcano is world 8-ball champion

AFTER the world 9-ball crown, now comes the world 8-ball title.

Ronnie Alcano of the Philippines continued his amazing run towards the top of the pool world by ruling the World 8-Ball Championship late Thursday night at the Al Bashon Hall in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.

Alcano pulled through at the expense of compatriot, stable-mate and roommate Dennis Orcollo, whom he edged in the finals, 11-8.

Adding his World Pool conquest last year in Manila, Alcano became the second player to win both the world 9-ball and 8-ball titles.

The first one was Taiwanese teen sensation Wu Chia-ching who, at 16, emerged world champion in 8-ball and 9-ball in 2005.

Both Alcano and Orcollo are playing under Perry Mariano's Bugsy Promotion.
The victory was worth $25,000, or P1.2 million for Alcano.

Orcollo, the country's top money game player who won the World Pool League last year, settled for $12,500 or P600,000. CRAM
