Davao bets confident in chess

DAVAO City woodpushers are confident to rule the men's and women's events as the Davao Region Prisaa Meet chess competition gets underway today at 9 a.m. at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina campus.

Davao City men's coach Ronnie Tabudlong and women's coach National Master (NM) Prospero "Bebot" Cruz said their players are ready to do battle in the round-robin tournament.

Tabudlong, whose team is composed of varsity players from UM, said they have a very strong team and "we are eyeing for a sweep in all four boards but we expect Tagum to be a tough opponent."

Tabudlong will rely on the Dimakiling brothers, Chito II and Adrian, who play together with Reynaldo Gempero, Jr. and veteran campaigner Brene Parreno.

Cruz, on his part, admitted the Tagum women's team may pull off surprises in one or two boards.
