Sulu's datus reject sultan's candidacy

A GROUP of datus (royal chiefs) from Sulu rejected the candidacy of administration senatorial candidate Sultan Jamalul Kiram III, saying that his candidacy is an embarrassment to the Sulu sultanate.

In a report posted at the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) website luwaran.com, the datus led by Datu Rajamuda Ladjamura Bantilan Wasik said his heirs and other chiefs in Sulu will not support Kiram's candidacy because he is now subservient to the Philippine government and he has already abdicated his throne.

Wasik said Kiram "is an embarrassment to the Sulu Sultanate for a Sultan like him to get involved in politics with other government."

"Being a Sultan has a sovereign power and state with his Kingdom; so he must not submit himself to any other government," Wasik said.

Wasik is one of the claimants to the throne of the Sultanate of Sulu but he was allegedly not recognized by the people of Sulu. He branded the heirs of Sultan Jamalul Kiram I and Sultan Mohammad Pulalon and all the other claimants as "pretenders." (BOT)
