Montaña, Sulpicio turn back rivals

SULPICIO Lines and Montaña Pawnshop turned back separate rivals at the start of the Holy Cross of Davao College-Alumni Mighty 40s Summer Basketball Tournament Saturday at the Gaisano South SkyGym.

Sulpicio Lines leaned on Allosa and Egay Dalisay to topple SIRBA, 67-59, in the 40s category, while Montaña crushed GSIS-BLBE, 71-59, in the 45 above category.

Allosa topscored with 21 while Dalisay backed him up with nine points. Lamoste led the losers with 13.

Gonzales and Larry Lu led Sulpicio in scoring with 21 and 10 points, respectively.

The tournament, which will also hold games at the HCDC gym, is being sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) headed by regional director Regino "Boy" Cua.

A total of seven teams are entered in the Mighty 40s category, while four squads are playing in the Mighty 45s category.

Playing in the Mighty 40s are Vista Monte-CMO, Sulpicio Lines, Mr. ADZ, Paglas Corporation, HCDC Parents, SIRBA and Superbull.

Montaña, Davao Ching, GSIS-BLEB and Jommae Marketing are seeing action in the Mighty 45s.

On March 31, also at the SkyGym Davao Ching plays Sulpicio Lines in the first game at 1 p.m., followed by the Paglas Corporation-HCDC Parents clash at 2 p.m.

The main game at 3 p.m. features Vista Monte against Superbull.
