Wednesday, March 28, 2007 Dr. Te, Niera capture Datba bowling crowns
DR. TONY Te and Mac Mac Niera turned back the challenge of their respective rivals to rule the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) adult and youth monthly finals Sunday at the NCCC Mall B3 lanes.
Dr. Te stopped the advancing Arthur Galendez in the championship match of the stepladder finals to emerge champion in the adult division.
His effort netted Te P5,000, while Galendez settled for P3,000. Galendez earned the right to meet Dr. Te after ousting Atty. Joseph Flores and Ronald Martin, who placed third and fourth, respectively.
Galendez came through with best qualifying total score of 940 pinfalls, the highest qualifying of 268, and with the highest score in the finals at 224.
Niera downed Janine Kuwahara in the final match to take the crown in the youth division.
Niera booked herself of a championship berth after beating Yen-Yen Flores earlier. Kuwahara finished second, Flores third and Diane Galendez fourth.
Kuwahara ranked first in the elimination with her 1023 pinfalls. Niera had 944.
Meanwhile, Atty. Flores topped the Datba weekly tournament adult division rolling a high 826 Saturday also at the same venue.
Dr. Tony Te had 820 to place second and Vivian Kuwahara managed 806 good for third place. Leandro Martin (790) wound up fourth and Manny Niera (785) fifth.
In the youth division, Yen Yen Flores emerged champion after her 665.
Janine Kuwahara placed second with a 655 and Karla Sulla third following a 628. Mac Mac Niera rolled 617 for fourth and Jacky Villar's 615 was good for fifth place. (CRAM)
