Monday, April 02, 2007 Malanyaon seeks disqualification of Palma Gil By Ben O. Tesiorna
DAVAO Oriental Representative and gubernatorial candidate Corazon N. Malanyaon is set to file disqualification charges against her political opponent, reelectionist Governor Ma. Elena Palma Gil, for harassment and violation of the Omnibus Election Code.
It was learned that the two camps have set their proclamation rally at the same day and at the same venue, the Mati Baywalk, last Friday.
In a telephone interview, Malanyaon said the Palma Gil camp deliberately set up their stage a few meters in front of the stage set up by the camp of Malanyaon in Mati, Poblacion.
Malanyaon said they fear that due to the proximity of the venue, tension might rise that may lead to untoward incident. For this, Malanyaon decided to delay their proclamation rally at a latter date just to avoid any problem.
"Nagtaka talaga kami kung bakit bigla na lang silang dumating tapos nagset-up din ng stage nila harap pa mismo ng stage namin, and without a mayor's permit. Kaya we are planning to file disqualification charges against the governor kasi what she did was a brazen disregard of the law (We were surprised when all of a sudden they set-up their stage right in front of ours and without a mayor’s permit. That is why we are planning to file disqualification charges against the governor because what she did was a brazen disregard of the law)," Malanyaon said.
She said this is not the first incident where the Palma Gils have harassed her.
"Before, yung sasakyan ko hinarangan ng sasakyan ng anak ng governor. Sobra na talaga itong harassment na ito. Dapat matigil na ito (Before, my vehicle was blocked by one of the governor’s children. This is really too much of harassment and this should stop already)," Malanyaon said.
Sun.Star tried getting the reaction of Palma Gil on the issue but in vain.
