Tuesday, April 03, 2007 Del Rosario’s camp hits back at intrigue-sowing By Ben O. Tesiorna
GOVERNOR Gelacio Gementiza was strongly criticized by the camp of gubernatorial candidate Rodolfo del Rosario for sowing intrigues and making them the centerpiece of the governor's political campaign.
In a statement, del Rosario's spokesman Carlos Munda said personal and family issues regarding del Rosario is “a minor concern to the people of Davao del Norte."
"What is important and what Yayong (Gementiza) should answer for to the people in the province is his past performance, or rather non-performance, as governor of Davao del Norte. He should present his platform and development programs to the people and not resort to mudslinging, showbiz-style gossiping if he wants to prove that he is the right candidate for the job," Munda said.
Reports reaching Sun.Star Davao showed that the camp of Gementiza, who is seekign reelection, had been telling the people not to vote for del Rosario for governor due to the family row between the del Rosarios and the Floirendos.
The Floirendos however declared recently that their perceived conflict with the del Rosarios had already been resolved.
Proof to this is when Representative Tonyboy Floirendo expressed his support to all administration candidates of the province including his uncle, del Rosario, who was the reason for his backing out of the gubernatorial race.
The family ties between the del Rosarios and the Floirendos recently turned sour after the young Floirendo was anointed by Don Antonio Floirendo for governor instead of Vice Governor Anthony del Rosario who was the earlier favorite.
Tonyboy however decided to bow out of the race a few days later after del Rosario announced his interest to run for governor again.
Del Rosario in return expressed his gratitude to Tonyboy for his unselfish act and apologized to the Floirendos if he has hurt them for his decision.
Sun.Star Davao tried getting the reaction of Gementiza but to no avail.
