Poster area violations reflect bet's audacity
By Grace L. Plata

THE posting of campaign materials in places not listed under the common poster areas reflect negatively on the candidates, said City Administrator Wendel Avisado.

Avisado said it is the candidates’ responsibility to orient and inform their people on election laws especially on where to post or hang campaign materials.

He said the common excuse often heard from candidates, both national and local, is their supporters' misguided initiatives that cause repeated violations of the Commission on Elections rule.

Avisado said: "How can the people elect these candidates when they cannot even police their own staff to follow simple election guidelines?"

The repeated violations of simple rules should be taken in by voters as an indication of the candidate's audacity to break rules and should be an embarrassment to the candidates especially those re-electionists who already know the rules and need not be reminded, he said.

"It is a challenge for them to show responsibility and accountability and if they do succeed in doing, thus the people will believe they are actually capable to govern or decide for the good of a larger population," he added.
