Cansino advances in GenSan event

DAVAO City netters El Santo Santos and Juan Paolo Cansino got off to a rousing start Monday in the 2nd leg of the Head Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit in General Santos City.

Santos, the Davao leg boys 18-under champion and a BIMP Eaga Friendship Games gold medalist, ousted Ian Cañete, 10-0, in the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned netfest.

Cansino routed Anton Rolete of General Santos, 10-2, in the boys 16-under to advance to the next round along with fellow Head-sponsored players top-seed Leander Lazaro of Manila and third-seed Kim Polero.

Cansino is also seeing action in the 14-under category where he is expected to redeem himself after finishing second to Andre Banate in the Davao leg titular clash.

Lazaro crushed Amante Tandango of General Santos, 10-2, while Polero defeated another hometown bet Miko Concha.

No. 6 Tim Polero is still playing against Michael Cañete as of Tuesday. Tennis merchandise and trophies await the champions and runners-up of the tournament sponsored by Dynamic Sports Corporation.

A total of 12 legs are entered in the circuit including legs to be held in Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cebu, Baguio and Manila. (MLSA)
