Thursday, April 12, 2007 AIM offers program to boost family biz By Joy Romares-Sevilla
THE Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Alumni Association of Davao, a new organization established in Davao City, is offering a program that would help family corporations acquire healthy business.
Nicholas Dy, chair of the AIM Alumni Association of Davao, said the program, dubbed as the "Managing Family Corporations"--a family business management course, will help companies to identify and analyze the key issues and challenges of family corporations.
"The main objective of the course is to uplift the managerial capabilities of Davao, this is something very good for Davao corporations," Dy said in Wednesday's Club 888 media forum, adding that the program is in cooperation with the Mindanao Business Council (MinBC) that is actively campaigning to Davao-based companies to take the course.
Dy further said the course will be a four-day activity to be held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel next month and to be conducted by AIM professors from Manila.
"The course is very well accepted in Manila and in Cebu, we decided to bring it here because most of the company representatives in Manila and in Cebu are from Davao City and there are a lot of companies in Davao that are family-owned," Dy said.
He said a total of P40,000 for each representative will be spent for the four-day activity, lower by 33 percent if the company representative will go to Manila to take the same course.
"Maybe in the future we can come up with a suitable module for entrepreneurship. We decided not to offer the course sa ngayon kasi entrepreneurship is a one-year course and demands very intensive discussions," he said.
