Thursday, April 12, 2007 GMA's 'Panata' series breaks ground in Davao
THE "Panata" series reiterates GMA Network's unrelenting pursuit of truth and adherence to honest-to-goodness public service.
With the "Panata", GMA brings forth its news organization's core thrusts -- "Balitang walang kinikilingan, walang pinoprotektahan, walang kasinungalingan; serbisyong totoo lang."
The "Panata" first broke ground in 2004. This year, a more personal approach was incorporated as the views of common people were woven into the concept.
Now, the whole force of GMA News Davao join hands with ordinary Dabawenyos as they assert their individual and collective views on the type of news and brand of service they prefer and altogether deserve.
This approach was perfect for the Davao News team, whose thrust of providing news delivered by local people for the local people, has proven to be more popular and effective.
Hence, the "Panata" was executed in the regions by a formidable creative team -- writer Alex Almario, art director Dennis Tiu, associate creative director Dong Tan, director Vince Gealogo and director of photography Neil Nanquil.
Gealogo and Nanquil spearheaded the production team of "Panata's" national version.
Inspired by the national version which features the biggest and most-respected names in the broadcast industry, the "Panata" regional version presents the entire news team in Davao led by Testigo's anchor Tek Ocampo.
Joining him are the equally hardworking men and women of GMA News and Public Affairs Davao -- correspondents John Paul Seniel, Sheillah Vergara, Richy Nalagon, Donna Timbal, Brecil Kempis, Derf Maiz and Vladimir Fernando; Bong Canedo-Pascual (supervising producer), Darios Relatado (head, news gathering), Margie Dacanay (desk editor), Rose Bernales (associate producer); the editors, cameramen and the engineering team.
Highlights of the making of "Panata" started airing last April 9 and will run until April 12 on Testigo. Viewers then will get a first glimpse of the two-day shoot, among which was done at the 911 facilities -- Davao's pride in public safety and security.
In Davao's Panata, the symbiosis between GMA's regional news group and its viewers is presented in various vignettes—all showing a people's collective passion for news and the truth -- a trademark of GMA News and Public Affairs as it remains the most trusted news organization nationwide.
