Thursday, April 12, 2007 Dizon siblings gain By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan
THE Dizon siblings of Davao City--Andrei and Jenni--advanced to the next round in their respective categories at the start Tuesday of the Tru-Flex Age-Group Tennis Championships in Manila.
Andrei crushed Jorel Buenaflor of Manila, 6-1, 6-0, in the boys 16-under while younger sister Jenni won over Albert Lim via default in 10-under unisex.
Andrei, however, bowed to Manila bet Jonathan Murrel, 1-6, 1-6, in the boys 18-under even as Jenni succumbed to Bea Ebriega, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, in girls 12-under.
Andrei will pair with fellow Dabawenyo multi-titled Ralph Kevin Barte in the boys doubles of the Group 1 event sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta).
Steffi Marie, the eldest of the Dizon siblings, was still making her debut in the girls 18-under as of Wednesday.
The BIMP Eaga Games veteran Steffi, aside from campaigning in Manila, will also seek admission at the De La Salle University for her college education.
Steffi is eyeing a slot in the tennis varsity team along with Barte.
Barte, Davao's finest age-grouper today, waived his participation in the Tru-flex singles event to review for the admission test of DLSU.
