Lacson endorses de Guzman's candidacy

SENATORIAL candidate Panfilo "Ping" Lacson endorsed former Davao City mayor and congressional hopeful Benjamin de Guzman for the city's third district during his sortie in Toril, Davao City Friday.

Lacson also endorsed the candidacy of 2nd congressional candidate Billy Aportadera and Davao del Sur's congressional candidate Mina King.

In his speech before the crowd at the Vales Beach Resort Friday morning, Lacson said he found in the three candidates the essential qualities of a good leader.

Lacson, in particular, cited Aportadera's track record with the Ombudsman in fighting graft and corruption in the government.

De Guzman meanwhile welcomed the "personal endorsement" by Lacson. The former mayor said he and Ping are personal friends and that the senator's endorsement would be a big boost to his candidacy.

"It was a personal endorsement and I appreciate it very much. He is a good friend of mine," de Guzman said.

Lacson's endorsement of de Guzman came as a surprise to many Dabawenyos considering that Lacson and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte are close friends and Duterte is at odds with de Guzman. (BOT)
