Welcome party for new GM
By Jojie Alcantara
Witerary

MUCH as it saddens us to say farewell to Pearl Farm Resort's outgoing General Manager Juan Roca, the party tendered for the incoming general manager at the Pearl Farm Marina was jovial and smooth.

Media friends, management and supporters were present to warmly welcome Mikel Villaverde, who is taking over Juan Roca's efficient handling of Davao's world class resort.

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007 Coverage

Born in Spain, the 32-year old bachelor finished his Law degree from Deusto University in Spain, before pursuing a different career path and earning his Masters in Hotel Management from Madrid Polytechnic University, with honors.

He also merited a Masters in Business Administration from the ADM Business School in Madrid.

He has worked in prestigious hotels in England and has gained extensive knowledge of the industry with his training. He soon became assistant manager of Sunscape Puerto Aventuras in Mexico for two years, and then as resident manager of Oasis Cancun, Mexico.

His achievements are worthy of mentioning. In 2004, he was general manager of Lantaron Hotel and Thalasso Center in Cantabria, and took on the same position in the Grand Oasis Riviera Maya.

Before joining the management of Pearl Farm, he was the general manager of Atlanthal Majadahonda Wellness Center in Spain.

This was Mikel's first look of our city and culture. He'd have lots of surprises waiting for him.

When Juan first came over to Davao as a 28-year old young bachelor, he was surprised at the warmth and hospitality of our people.

Pretty soon, after three years, he married his Filipina girlfriend Joan and produced a beautiful baby named Natalia.

Juan's promotion may bring his family to another land, but his wonderful memories of our city will always be with him.

When Juan introduced my media group proudly to Mikel, he said, "Don't worry, they will take care of you," and spoke of us fondly like the buddies we all were.

Welcome to our city, Mikel. (React to witty@info.com.ph, or browse website www.witerary.com)
