Tuesday, April 17, 2007 Karlo Nogie defends being nominee for OFW party-list By Carlo P. Mallo
NOT being an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) should not be a basis to question an individual getting nominated for a party-list group that claims to represent the OFWs, party-list nominee lawyer Karlo B. Nograles said.
In an interview Monday, Nograles said that his nomination was a decision of the party-list group and he simply accepted the offer.
The young Nograles said he has represented the group as its labor lawyer. He also revealed that although he is not an Overseas Filipino Worker, he is fit for the job with his experience as labor lawyer.
"I believe in the cause of the party-list group," Nograles said. This was the primary reason he accepted the nomination last March 27 this year.
Nograles, the eldest son of incumbent Davao City congressman Prospero C. Nograles, has been recently criticized for being a nominee of a party-list group of which he is not a member.
But the young Nograles said it's about time that the 10 million OFWs are given a voice in the lower House of Congress by someone who can best represent them.
