City to relocate residents before bridge rehab starts
By Joy Romares-Sevilla

TRAFFIC Management Center (TMC) chief Celso Gempesaw said the City Government is prioritizing the relocation of the residents living under the Governor Generoso Bridge in Bankerohan before starting the rehabilitation works.

"You may notice na nahinto ang trabaho sa taas ng tulay, but the fact is, pina-prioritize namin ang pag-relocate sa mga residents who will be affected by the reconstruction," Gempesaw said during Wednesday's Club 888 press forum.

He added that the TMC, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Davao City Police Office (DCPO), City Planning Office, and the City Engineer's Office have planned out the relocation.

"We will be conducting a census study and those who will qualify will be relocated immediately, those who will not qualify will still be assisted by the local government," Gempesaw said.

He added that the Ilustre Extension will be closed when the reconstruction starts.

"We will also impose No Parking on both sides of the road and we will not allow vendors to use the road as their vending area," he said adding that agricultural products that are displayed at the Metro Circle or "Bagsakan Center" will not also be allowed to be unloaded by vehicles in the area.

Gempesaw admitted that the flow of traffic in Bankerohan is now normalized following the opening of a passage in front of the Flying V gasoline station for south-bound motorists.

"Continuous ang effort na ginagawa natin sa pag-study to ease the inconvenience lalo pa malapit na ang pasukan (especially school days are fast approaching)," he said.
