Election paraphernalia have not arrived: CTO
By Grace L. Plata

CITY Treasurer Rodrigo Riola is worried that election paraphernalia will not arrive in time for the May 14 polls.

Riola said that 14 kinds of election forms including official ballots and election returns are still on their way to Davao City.

Ballot boxes from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) central office have also yet to arrive as the city cannot use the old ones that are already here.

This is due to the continued investigation of the complaint lodged by senatorial candidate Loren Legarda when she lost the bid for vice-president in 2004, thus the boxes have to stay put and cannot be utilized.

With 3,585 precincts in Davao City, Riola said, Comelec and the 430 staff members employed by the city for the polls will have to work double time as soon as the paraphernalia is completed just to get distributed before Election Day.

Riola said that in 2004, election paraphernalia started to arrive during the last week of March and was completed by the 2nd week of April.

However, this year it has been delayed due to unexplained reasons.

Aside from this, Riola said the honorarium for the teachers who will be serving on May 14 has not yet been released by the Comelec central Office to its city or regional office.

It can be recalled that the city government has given P5 million in order to make sure the elections here go on without a hitch.
