Thursday, May 03, 2007 Talomo District wins Youth Olympics; Toril players finish second
TALOMO Talomo district amassed a total of 165 points to emerge overall champion in the first-ever Youth Olympics Davao held at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina campus over the weekend.
Toril came in close second with 156 points while Calinan garnered 153 for third place.
Buhangin made 143 points for the fourth spot followed by Bunawan with 117 in fifth, Paquibato 93 sixth, Agdao 52 seventh, Pobalcion B 40 eighth, Tugbok 37 ninth, Baguio 28 10th, Poblacion A 26 11th and cellar dweller Marilog with three points in 12th place.
Some 1,800 youth in the city's barangays competed in various events entered in the three-day sportsfest organized to complete the SK GK (Gawad Kalinga) Youth Village, the first of its kind in the country.
Davao City Vice Mayor Luis Bonguyan and Councilors Leo Avila III, Susan Isabel Reta, Emmanuel Galicia, Conde Baluran, and Mabel Acosta graced the opening of the meet.
It was held in coordination with the city government of Davao, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation Davao and various National Sports Associations (NSAs), among other supporters. (MLSA)
