Saturday, May 05, 2007 Bikefest to protect environment
VARIOUS cycling clubs, associations, and federations will converge at Puan Crossing at 7 a.m. Saturday to join the 35-kilometer EARTH (Environment Awareness Resolves Tomorrow's Hope) Happy Fun Ride calling for a healthy and clean environment.
The activity expects hundreds of bikers from all walks of life, age, race and religious denominations using their simple BMX to the competitive MTB and unique vintage pieces.
The event, spearheaded by the office of City Councilor Leonardo Avila III in coordination with the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, aims to promote awareness on a pollution-free environment to benefit the city's water reservoir, trees, forests, wildlife and all human beings.
Organizers said the bikers play a great role in saving hard currency through gas conservation and alternative mode of transportation and mobility.
EARTH also stands for environment, awareness, reforestation, transportation and health which are the main focus of the event.
The bikers will also clamor for bike lanes in the city to protect public welfare and safety.
