Sunday, May 20, 2007 Miting di Avance By Stella A. Estremera
ART has a voice. But what voice it has is the voice the artist wants to speak. The artist can choose to his art to be apolitical. He can choose to speak solely about aesthetics or his life. But what life does he lead? Is it a life apart from society and its mechanisms?
These are the questions asked of those who enter the former Impit Purok bar at the Matina Town Square where the Davao Artist Foundation Inc. is holding its "Miting di Avance", an art exhibit and interaction that runs until May 26.
The exhibit opened to a gathering of young artists and friends along with their elder mentors watching their fellow artists perform last May 12. While hastily prepared, the exhibit managed to gather a considerable number of works, especially from students who can never say enough about Philippine politics and what they believe this is doing to their country. The idealism of youth speaking, shouting, others jeering through their artworks...
