Sunday, May 20, 2007 Butch: Dream, get into sports By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan
MANILA-based Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William "Butch" Ramirez left the hustle and bustle of the Big City to celebrate his 57th birthday with some 70 teenagers of Our Lady of Fatima Church's Sagip Kinabuhi Program (SKP) Thursday afternoon.
Ramirez vowed to help the parish in sports and livelihood projects, particularly those that will cater to the welfare of the youth.
The PSC chief, accompanied by his wife Mercy and friends whom he referred to as members of the Sunday Club, had a thanksgiving Mass officiated by parish priest Bong Gonzaga.
The latter thanked Ramirez for his continued support to the parish over the past years.
After the Mass, an SKP teener thanked Ramirez in behalf of the group.
"Thank you Chairman for giving us sports gears like rubber shoes and jerseys. Thank you for celebrating your birthday with us. We will always remember your goodness," the teener said in the vernacular.
Ramirez, on his part said, "The good Lord has blessed me so much and I and my wife are happy to share this with you. I encourage you to always be thankful for the blessings in life. Dream on. Never give up. Believe in God and believe in yourself. Be patient to reach your dreams."
He also told the youth to get into sports and be involved in productive undertakings.
"I will talk to Tesda and see how you can avail of vocational and technical courses," he added.
Ramirez, his wife and friends distributed snack packs to the teeners and their counselors after the pictorial session.
