Fida holds trainings in Cotabato

THE regional office of the Fiber Industry Development Authority (Fida) has not only extended assistance in Sarangani Province and in Davao Region, but it has also monitored abaca development and assisted farmers in South Cotabato and North Cotabato.

In Souh Cotabato, Fida conducted two abaca production-training seminars where topics such as site selection, establishing a plantation, management practices, maintenance, harvesting, fiber extraction, and qualities, which determine abaca grades were discussed.

Fida also monitored the status of abaca nurseries in the area. Activities conducted were monitoring of re-growth of eradicated abaca plants and disease indexing.

In North Cotabato, Fida monitored the status of abaca development project in Sitio Elib, Barangay Tico in Magpet.

The total area developed and planted to abaca is 34 hectares. (JGRS)
