CRG works with SK
By Joy Romares-Sevilla

THE members of the 5th Civil Relations Group of the Civil Relations Service (CRS) of the Philippine Army, under its new group commander, is now working together with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of Davao City for joint projects and programs in the community.

Major Medel Aguilar, group commander of the 5th Civil Relations Group, told Sun.Star that they are a part of the ongoing Gawad Kalinga project of the SK Federation of Davao to benefit the poorest among the poor families in Tibungco Relocation.

"The project is a one-week activity where 15 of us from CRG helped in building a house for the most poor family in Tibungco Relocation," Aguilar said.

He added that the activity was composed of three teams of soldiers, two from the CRG and one team from the 73rd Infantry Battalion.

Aguilar said this is not the first time CRG and SK Federation worked together for a community project.

"Nagsimula ang team up namin nung (our team started in) March when we conducted a series of medical mission in Paquibato district and in UM Matina campus. Simula noon, every time they have a project or activity, ini-inform nila kami," Aguilar said, adding that when the federation asked CRG to be a part of the activity in Tibungco, they did not hesitate to help.

"Maganda ang project and we committed to continue building the house hanggang sa matapos, initially, nagawan na namin ng dingding (walls were made)," he said.

Aguilar, however, doesn't have any idea how much the project costs.

"The SK provided the materials, kami naman more on manpower," he said.

Aguilar hopes to continue making such activity in partnership with different organizations in Davao City.

"We are open to team up with any organization, we want to see Bayan Muna and Anakpawis working with us side by side, sharing lunch with us," Aguilar said.

Aguilar was assigned at the 5th CRG as the group commander on January this year after Major Jose Maria Cuerpo III left a United Nations assignment.
