New call center offers 500 seats

ANOTHER Manila-based call center company is proposing to operate in Davao City this year, said Department of Trade and Industry-Davao City Director Teolulo Pasawa.

Pasawa, in an interview last week, said this call center company will make 500 seats available for aspiring and qualified call center agents.

"This is the third big call center identified a site in Davao for their operation," Pasawa said, adding that the possible operation area of the call center company for its expansion will be in a mall in the city.

"It has been a trend that malls allot one of their spaces for call centers," he said.

Pasawa added the call center does not only need agents who are proficient in the English language, but it also needs accounting personnel.

Earlier, Pasawa said a representative of a Manila-based call center company has already identified a site for their operation in the city this year.

He, however, failed to identify the company, but said the main reason for the investment is the establishment of an IT park here. Damosa was identified as an IT park here.

Meanwhile, Lizabel 'Wit" Holganza, president of the Transcription Alliance of Davao Inc. (Tadi), echoed Pasawa's statement in an earlier interview, saying the call center company will be opening 4,000 seats.

She said the city could definitely compete considering its various advantages over other places in the country.

Holganza said Tadi is projecting Davao City as a primary destination of choice for those engaged in business process outsourcing. (JGRS)
