Monday, May 28, 2007 Campaign leader killed in Lebak
IT'S not yet over as far as election-related violence is concerned, or so it seems. This time the victim is a campaign leader in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat Province.
Police identified the victim as Orlando Dumang-as, 43, a close supporter of the Mangudadatu family in the area.
According to reports gathered from the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police, Dumang-as was sitting outside his residence at Poblacion Lebak around 7 p.m. Saturday when he was shot with a .45 caliber handgun.
Dumang-as, who was hit on the chest and temple, died on the spot as the suspect fled onboard a motorcycle.
Police are looking into several angles, including political reasons and personal grudge. Pointing New People's Army as suspect is another possibility.
Dumang-as, a former member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu), has allegedly killed several members of the rebel group in their area in previous encounters.
Police are still conducting further investigation to identify the suspects. (Garry Fuerzas)
