The two youths were watching computer games at a house in their neighborhood when a Honda Wave motorcycle with two men arrived. One of the men disembarked and shot the two without provocation at around 1:15 a.m.

"Katong isa ka gabii, niadto pud tong suspect sa ilang lugar ug nagpabuto didto pero walay naigo. Katong tungura, sila na gyud ang naigo (The other night, the suspect also went to their neighborhood and fired a gun, hitting no one. At this instance, he already aimed at the two)," PO2 Neil Arellano of the Sta. Ana police told Sun.Star Davao.

One of the victims identified the shooter.

"Ang ingon is alias Bina na taga Isla Verde ang nakita niya. Naa man gud daw to siyay nauyab na gi uyab pud sa taga didto so, mao pa lang na ang makita namo ta motibo (The shooter was said to be one alias Bina of Isla Verde. The victim said Bina had a girlfriend who also became the girlfriend of someone in their neighborhood and so that's the motive we are looking into)," PO2 Arellano said in an interview.

Paete was first shot, three times in his right hand and when he ran away to hide, the gunman shot at Mantilla instead, hitting him on the left palm.
Police are now conducting follow-up operation to arrest the suspect.
