1st Singh golf gets more backers
By Charles Raymond A. Maxey

MORE and more individuals have thrown their support to the 1st Lucho Singh Invitational Golf Tournament as it draws nearer.

Singh on Sunday announced that his friends from Washington, former governor William Booth Gardner and Ernie and Mariquita C. Swanson, have agreed to become patron-sponsors of the 18-hole event, which fires off July 8 at the Apo Golf and Country Club.

Another one from Cupertino, California, JD Stella, is also supporting the tournament, which aims to raise funds for cancer patients in Davao City.

"This only goes to show that a lot of people out there have heart for individuals who need comfort and medical attention, like cancer patients," said Singh, himself a cancer survivor.

The Lucho event will have team and individual plays. There are two divisions in team play--A and B--and three divisions in individual play--A, B and C.

There will be overall gross and net champions as well as division gross and net winners in the 18-hole event which will benefit cancer patients in Davao City.

Prizes are also at stake to anybody who can score a hole-in-one, eagle and double eagle, a rare shot in golf.

Sponsors for the coming tournament are pouring in. Early backers were Speak Well Academy Inc., Jerry Abinsay of Manila, AF Properties, Art Balmaceda and IHOP Restaurant under its president Vince Espino of Hawaill.

There are also Gary Jacod of Tacoma, a sister city of Davao, Rolando D. Ladislao, Ariel Abadilla and Carmelita Singh Fuller and Danny Fuller, who pledged to be patron of the tournament.

The event is a fund-raising project to benefit cancer victims in Davao through the Amuma Cancer Support Group Foundation, Inc.
