Friday, June 01, 2007 All set for kiddie triathlon
SOME 30 children cancer patients at the Davao Medical Center (DMC) will benefit from the 3rd Davao Kiddie Triathlon kicking off in an out-and-back course at the Ladislawa Country Club in Ladislawa Buhangin at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Federation of Off-Road Cycling Enthusiasts (Force) president Dominic Carpio said proceeds of the event will go to the cancer ward for children at DMC.
"It's been the advocacy of Triad (Triathlon Association of Davao) and other coordinating agencies to help these kids by putting up the fund-raising activity," Carpio said during the regular Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum Thursday at the Tower Inn.
The triathlon will feature the under-seven years old, seven to eight, nine to 10, 11 to 12 and 13 to 15 categories.
"This is our way of encouraging participants to appreciate their blessings and share them to others by playing for the kids who can't like the cancer patients," Carpio said.
The event will cover 200-meter swim, three-kilometer bike and one kilometer run.
But Carpio said the under-seven category will have shorter distance than the rest of the categories.
Medals and certificates await the top three finishers in each category. (MLSA)
