Saturday, June 02, 2007 Top councilors ready to be acting vice mayor By Carlo P. Mallo
IT'S wait-and-see for the top councilors of the city's three districts as to who will be named the acting vice mayor should City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte undergo operation and hand over to his daughter, Vice Mayor-elect Sara, the reins to run the City Hall in his stead.
Under the law, the councilor who gets the highest percentage of votes becomes the "acting" vice-mayor. As to who that will be, the formal announcement will come from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
"It's not a matter of choice, but a matter of duty," top ranking first district councilor Maria Belen Sunga-Acosta said.
She added that every first councilor of the three congressional districts of the city should be prepared for such duty.
Acosta actually topped the race after garnering 39 percent of the votes in the first district.
In the second district, topping the council race is newcomer Louie John Bonguyan with 33 percent of the votes cast. While Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz topped the race in the third district with 34 percent of the votes.
