Construction for the new school building started October 28, 2006, through a shared venture of the city and national government, each shelling out P15 million.
The mayor congratulated those who worked for the completion of the construction, including Rep. Prospero Nograles, who got in touch with the Office of the President for the immediate release of funds.
The building, according to Duterte, was completed a month earlier than its deadline, thanks to the contractor.
According to Jenelito Atillo, Department of Education Information Officer, the new Palma Gil building can accommodate a maximum of 1,000 students but only has 614 as of Monday.
"Each classroom has a comfort room with a one-teacher-to-38-student ratio," Atillo said.
The school will still be accepting enrollees until the end of this week but classes have already started Monday.
According to Palma Gil alumni Councilor Emmanuel Galicia Sr. who was also present yesterday, the changes in the school are outstanding especially as he remembers it during the post-war days when he was attending school at Palma Gil.
Among the attendees of yesterday's inauguration and turn-over were Vice-Mayor Luis Bonguyan, City Administrator Wendel Avisado, Councilors Pilar Braga, Mabel Sunga Acosta and Conrado Baluran, City Planning and Development Coordinator Mario Luis Jacinto and former OIC-City Engineer and mayor-elect of Maribojoc in Bohol, Leoncio Evasco Jr.
